Exceptional interior designers have an ability to create a harmonious narrative throughout a home, where each room flows effortlessly into the next, telling a story of beauty and function along the way. For the finale of this Texas home’sopens in a new tab phased remodel, Houston-based designer Jennifer Kizzee of Jennifer Kizzee Designopens in a new tab overhauled the main floor kitchen and bath with a timeless interior design using neutral-stained woods and complementary Cambria quartz surfaces that have just the right amount of earthy tonality and vein movement.

Kitchen Remodel
First, the choice of wood stain is central to allowing nature to come through in this luxury kitchen design. There’s an intentionality in the combination of painted and stained cabinetry that’s integrative with the setting of the established neighborhood as well as throughout the rest of the home. And the choice of Cambria’s Everleigh quartz design on the perimeter countertops and waterfall island complements the aesthetic with subtle yet movement-rich veining that features cool gray and warm, sand-honey tonalities—combining the best of bold patterns and soft, tone-on-tone design.
Kizzee says, “Cambria is a product that we love. This is a material that we specify a lot. Countertops are the one material that gets the most use on a daily basis. So we want [the surfaces] to be durable. There’s not an apples to apples comparison to other materials ... Cambria is superior and is a given in every single project, unless the client chooses something completely different.” And when it comes to choosing a specific Cambria quartz design, Kizzee says, “that depends a lot on how much movement and boldness you want.” For this kitchen remodel, Kizzee selected a quartz design with veining and colorways that complemented all of the room’s neutral tones.
Another deliberate design decision was to forgo pendant lighting over the island and a bit of wall cabinetry on the sink perimeter. Instead, chic sconce lighting frames the window over the sink and corner cabinets go from counter to ceiling. Kizzee says, “We chose to let that whole area feel elevated and more like a piece of art. Because there’s a great amount of trees outside. We took care of the cabinetry on other walls. So that was the intention of it—not to block the view of the exterior.”

1cm Wall Cladding
On the opposite wall over the range, Kizzee says, “We wanted to do something special that felt a little bit more artistic with curves that mimic the curve of the pathway between the kitchen and the dining room.” Here, integrated and elegant functionality include a pot filler and flanking spice cabinets. Cambria’s Everleigh in 1cm is the perfect backdrop for the wall cladding. This thinner quartz slab is easier for installers to handle for vertical applications and provides continuous and maintenance-free beauty from countertop to backsplash.

Pet-Friendly Laundry Room
Small spaces require creative thinking, where every inch is thoughtfully considered and multifunctional solutions are paramount. “We stacked their appliances and added as much storage as we could,” says Kizzee. “Inside the tall cabinets are pullout drying racks. And then for their dog, we cladded [with Cambria] around the bowls because of water splashing, and a side cabinet stores all the pet food and treats.”

Bathroom Remodel
For a main floor bathroom that needed a serious overhaul, the homeowners were able to relax into the relationship they forged with Kizzee and team throughout their phased renovations. “They told me they hated everything and that we can move anything,” says Kizzee. And since nothing in the previous layout worked well for her clients, she ended up changing most everything.
Among the updates to the bathroom are a continuation of the natural wood stain and neutral color palette, maximized storage, a transom window above the vanity, and spa-like luxuries like a soaking tub and large shower with a built-in Cambria quartz bench.
Kizzee selected Cambria’s classic Brittanicca quartz design for this space. The design’s creamy background of neutral white is marbled with gray veins that intertwine with ashen veins and is dotted with veiled charcoal speckles.

Brittanicca is used for the vanity countertop, the shower bench, shower curb, and window trim. It also adds a touch of drama as a 10-inch-tall backsplash profile behind the wall faucets—adding bathroom beauty that is antimicrobial and easy to clean. Using Cambria’s jumbo slab size, Kizzee was able to create visual continuity throughout the space with all these extras while maximizing use of the entire slab and minimizing waste.

This kitchen and bathroom remodel showcases the enduring power of thoughtful design. By prioritizing timelessness, cohesion, and meticulous material selection, Kizzee has crafted a kitchen and bath that are not only aesthetically stunning but also highly functional. The strategic use of Cambria quartz surfaces throughout the kitchen and bathroom elevates both the beauty and practicality of these areas, offering a durable and elegant foundation for daily life. Ultimately, this project is a great reminder that the most impactful interiors are those that are both beautiful and enduring—spaces that resonate with a sense of timeless style and effortless functionality for years to come.
